How Do We Help?
-
Increasing financial knowledge, skills, and opportunities.
-
Developing and preserving affordable homeownership and rental homes.
-
Connecting residents with affordable loan products that are accessible to modest income neighbors.
-
Bringing together the public and private resources to build sustainable communities
Stanislaus Equity Partners was formed with the support of several stakeholders and partners, including a feasibility study grant provided by the Stanislaus Community Foundation, a $5 million seed capital grant from Stanislaus County, the initial fiscal sponsorship of City Ministry Network, and South Modesto Partnership 501(c)3 designation. Although newly formed, STEP’s leadership has several decades of experience working with underinvested communities and economic development.
What is a Community Development Corporation?
CDC’s are non-profit, community based organizations that secure private and public capital through development of both residential and commercial property. Additionally, these organizations undertake Economic Development efforts and offer programs which benefit the community. The types of projects and activities include: developing affordable housing; redeveloping properties to create mixed use, commercial and office projects; economic development and social programs; providing on-going property management; and in some instances, taking on certain City services that promote economic development within the communities they serve.
Permanent Supportive Housing
The James St, Apartments project is a seven unit, newly constructed complex that will provide permanent supportive housing for Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services clients who are at risk or experiencing homelessness. This project is a collaborative effort between City of Modesto, Stanislaus Affordable Housing Corporation, Stanislaus Equity Partners, and Stanislaus County BHRS. The James St. Project attracted $1.7 MM investment from the Project Homekey Program of the California Department of Housing and Community Development to serve some of Modesto's most vulnerable residents with a combination of affordable housing and supportive services designed to help vulnerable individuals and families using stable housing as a platform for health, recovery, and personal growth.
